Knowing something that we have never personally experienced is difficult, if not all together impossible, to achieve. “God is love,” John tells us in today’s reading. And yet, do we even know the real meaning of this great love in our lives?
After witnessing the miracle of the multiplying of the bread to feed the crowd of five thousand, the disciples thought that Jesus was a ghost when they saw him walking on water. They have not yet understood the full implications of what actually happened that day. They failed to realize that amidst them was God Himself in the flesh, trying the best He could to reach out to our very limited understanding of Him by simply becoming one of us. He humbled himself to share in our humanity so that we can truly know Him, and learn of His unconditional love for us.
In sensing their fear, Jesus reassures them by saying, “Be not afraid!” Can we hear Jesus saying the same words to us today? In hearing these words, we can reflect upon our own ability to understand and accept God’s love for us. What hinders us from knowing and accepting God’s love for us today?

Finally, we pray for one another, for those who have asked our prayers and for those who need our prayers the most.
Have a good day!
