Choosing a leader these days is a difficult task. We are bombarded with
advertisements, slogans, text messages, campaign jingles and handouts
by a multitude of candidates. Each of them extols his background,
educational accomplishments, track record and even singing talent while
put ting down his rivals. Yet despite all these, when we are in the
voting booth about to cast our ballot, we still cannot really say that
we know enough about them to make a confident choice.
In this chapter from the gospel of St. John, Jesus tries to convince
the people in the temple that he has been sent by God. He hints at his
identity as the Messiah. But no matter what he tells them, he cannot
convince all of them. Instead of listening, the Pharisees look at his
humble origins and close their hearts.
We are fortunate because we now know through Holy Scripture that Jesus
is the Messiah. But knowing and believing are different things. Jesus
is always ready to reveal himself to us if we are willing to invest the
time and effort to get to know him. Lent is a good time for us to make
the first move. This season of silence invites us to become intimate
with the Lord and accept him as our Savior.

Finally,
we pray
for one another, for those who have asked our prayers and for those who
need our prayers the most.
Have a
good day!
