There is a story about a nun who had a reputation for holiness. Someone
asked her, “Sister, is it really that difficult to become a saint?” She
replied, “It sure is. Some virtues require years of effort before you
master them. Take patience, for example, it took me seven years to
become really expert at it.”
Using the analogy of a vine and its branches, Jesus promised that if we
allow his word to find a place in the center of our lives, we can
become fruitful. Abiding in Jesus means that we are willing to give our
lives to him, so that he may ‘prune’ away whatever stands as an
obstacle to our discipleship. To abide in Jesus is to allow him to show
us where our motivations are selfish. When we abide in him, our
restlessness will change into patience as we experience God’s patience.
Our compassion will grow as we appreciate how fully Jesus has forgiven
us. Simply put, abiding in Christ means offering our hearts to the
Lord, so that he may have a hand to purify us.
Abiding in Jesus is also a matter of heart, a matter of responding to
his love for us in a personal and decisive manner. Jesus wants to be
the person with whom we share all that is in us. As we reveal ourselves
to Jesus in this way, he will comfort us in trouble and sadness, and he
will share with us the things that distress his heart. We give Jesus
our attempts at staying close to him, and he gives us his healing,
deliverance, and power. We give him our hearts, he gives us an even
greater gift: Our desires become his desires. His heart becomes our
heart. All these things are possible when we abide in Jesus’ love.

Finally,
we pray
for one another, for those who have asked our prayers and for those who
need our prayers the most.
Have a
good day!
