FIRST PETER 1:10-16
MARK 10:28-31

In today’s first reading Peter reminds his converts of their
extraordinary privilege in being the heirs of the prophets. The
prophets were men who were given insights into the wonders of the
redemption to come. But they would have been amazed had they known that
the recipients of such graces would be mostly Gentiles.
Peter rightly stresses the responsibility and demands a change in
behavior that illustrates a change of heart. Since the Church’s model
is Jesus himself, holiness is an urgent necessity so that we do not
grieve the Holy Spirit who dwells in us and wants to work through us.
Since all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God,
they should shout the praises of God and ring out their joy not only in
prayer, but in everyday life.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus promised a great reward to those who made the
supreme sacrifice of leaving their family and possessions for him.
Since they had sought his kingdom as their first priority, He would see
to all their needs, both for time and eternity. Effectively Jesus said:
“If you have any needs, forget yourself and think or me and allow me to
take care of you. How wonderful! We get the best of the deal.
As we worship God today, let us ask Him to guide us in His ways so that
we may always experience His strength in our life.

Finally,
we pray
for one another, for those who have asked our prayers and for those who
need our prayers the most.
Have a
good day!
