Jesus has issues with authority, when the concept is bandied around as
if only those who are learned and powerful have the right to be heard.
Many of us would never hear the truth if it came from the mouths of
fools and babes because we’d be so focused on what is relayed to us
from atop man-made hierarchies.
For Jesus, it is not the authority of the speaker that matters. He
places little stock in the titles and positions men give themselves.
Jesus tells us not to call anyone Rabbi since we have but one teacher
and the rest are all brothers and sisters. What matters in the end is
not the title of the one speaking, but whether or not he or she speaks
correctly – and if so, whether or not we listen.
